Medium-density fibreboard — a homogeneous core with no grain, which is why it machines, routs and takes paint better than any plywood. The type is what decides where it can go: plain for dry joinery, green MR for kitchens and bathrooms, red FR where a fire rating applies, MFC and veneered where the face is the finish. 18 mm is the standard carcass thickness.
